Summary

Intermediate Ceramics Workshop - Hand Building via Slab Construction Technique

Description

2 Work Sessions • 2 Weeks Apart

Get into the swing of spring by creating your own ceramic planter! Participants will make one small functional planter with the option of several decorating techniques.

This is an intermediate level class, if you have never worked with clay before we reccomend starting with our Pinch Pots for Beginners class or any of the seasonal variations of that class.

Session 1:

We will create the form of our planter with a slab contruction method. Demonstrations will include how to use a slab roller, explainantions on working with and creating slabs, and fundamental attachment techniques. We will use templates for consistent results. Stamps and textures will be available for surface decoraction, including foraged plant matter from our garden to make botanical impressions!

During the two weeks between sessions, the pieces we made will dry out and be bisque fired.

Session 2:

During this session we will go over the basics of glazing and complete the process of our planters. Topics will include the differences between underglaze and glaze as well as differences between commercial painting glazes and dipping glazes. The pieces we finish will then be loaded into the next available glaze firing and be ready for pick up afterwards (this can take a few weeks after the second session.) Students will receive an email when their work is ready for pick up!

This is a small class (6 people Max) so each student can receive hands on and induvidual instruction.

All materials and equipment supplied. Ages: 10+

Face Masks are Optional.

Dress weather appropriate! The studios are not climate controlled. Studio clothes reccomneded, things can get messy!
