Intermediate Ceramics Workshop - Hand Building via Slab Construction Technique

Description

2 Session Workshop  2 Weeks Apart

This is a slightly Intermediate level project If you have never worked with clay before we reccomend starting with our Pinch Pots for Beginners Workshop!

During the first session students will form cups using a slab contruction method.

Demonstrations will include:

• How to operate the studio's slab roller

Compressing and smoothing a slab of clay

How to utilize a template for consistent results

• Different techniques for beveling edges

Fundamental attachment techniques

• Using stamps and texture tools for surface design

• Slab built handles *Optional* This session allows for an extra hour depending on how the handle making proces goes for students*

During the two weeks between sessions, the cups and mugs will dry out and be bisque fired.

Students will then meet for the second session to glaze! During this workshop, Jackie will go over the basics of glazes and underglazes and students will complete the process of their cups using commercial paintable gazes. The finished pieces will then be loaded into the next available glaze firing and be ready for pick up (this can take a few weeks after the second session.) Students will receive an email when their work is ready for pick up!

This is a small class (6 people max.) so each student can receive hands on and induvidual instruction.

All materials and equipment are supplied.

Ages: 10+

Face Masks are optional.

Dress weather appropriate! The studios are not climate controlled. Studio clothes reccomneded, things can get messy!
