Ceramic Carved Trays

In this workshop students will hand build one tray using a slab construction technique that utilizes templates and foam to create the form. 

Slab construction is a hand building technique using uniformly flat pieces of clay and manipulating them or cutting and pasting them together. This workshop will demonstrate making a slab using a slab roller and then cutting out a tray template shape and using the inner template shape to press the cut out into foam to raise the walls and form it into a tray. We will then use underglaze to color the piece and a carving technique called sgraffito to carve designs through the layer of underglaze to reveal the color of the clay underneath, in this case white clay. 

After class the student work will then dry and go through the firing process and a clear glaze will be applied by the instructor. Return in a few weeks to take home your finished creations! Students will receive an email when pieces are ready for pick up. 

All materials and equipment supplied.

Ages: 8+

Children aged 15 and under must have accompanying adult.

Dress weather appropriate! The studios are not climate controlled. Studio clothes recommended, things can get messy!
